IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING APPLYING FOR A CELLO – FEBRUARY 17, 2024
At this time, the Foundation is pausing any new applications to take time for inventory and general maintenance. No applications qccepted at this time.
Please check back in June 2024 for updates.
We know the high costs of musical training. Our mission is to make fine cellos available to deserving students who could otherwise not afford the instrument they need in order to progress. The value of cellos loaned by the foundation ranges from $6,000 to $25,000. If you feel a better instrument could make a difference in your studies and performances, we encourage you to read the Expectations and Requirements below, see if your particular situation fits, and submit an application.
OUR EXPECTATIONS:
You must be actively studying with a private teacher. You are probably between 12 and 20 years old, but there may be exceptions. Your playing needs to be well beyond the beginning stages, and we expect greater-than-average drive and commitment. There must also be financial limitations that prevent you from either purchasing or renting a quality instrument at this time.
APPLICATION SHOULD INCLUDE:
- **$50 application fee made out to Carlsen Cello Foundation –
- Completed application (downloadable PDF below). Please provide extra pages as needed for your personal essay. The statement of financial need should be written by a parent, or whoever is providing for your studies.
- Video (see requirements on application)
- Teacher recommendation
**If you are selected, there will be a $400 annual fee, the first year to be paid before receiving the cello. Recipients are also responsible for insurance on the loaned cello, provided by a reputable agent. We can advise you concerning insurance options and possible carriers.
